Snow MMA‘s North Richland Hills Martial Arts Competition Team is coming home with a lot of gold from Saturday’s AGF Martial Arts Tournament in Duncanville, TX.

– 24 January, 2016 –

Martial Arts has so much to offer kids and a Martial Arts competition team is a great way to keep them challenged, engaged, and motivated to improve and grow. At Snow MMA, we encourage all of our athletes to compete, but there is no pressure for those who do not wish to. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is rewarding on so many levels, and many participate for the health, confidence-boosting, stress relieving, fun, and engaging aspects of training. It’s a journey with an endless opportunity for lots of personal growth. We are so proud to have students willing to step up and meet the challenge of competition; and in turn, becoming leaders and positive examples for their peers.

Even with such few competitors, team Snow’s Martial Arts Competition Team took 6th place overall! Congratulations to all the parents, competitors, and coaches!

Why put your child in Jiu-jitsu? Unlike other martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, or Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is an ever-growing, spreading, and evolving martial art with incredible opportunities to meet new people and make friends in every corner of the globe. Also, unlike these martial arts, BJJ has the ability to teach patience, calmness under pressure, open-mindedness, perseverance, and confidence in a way that these other martial arts could NEVER hope to. Here’s why: through live training and sparring, a child learning BJJ has to constantly learn to deal with the physical application of pressure, force, strength, and aggression by his / her training partners. With this type of “realistic” training, the ego is destroyed, the individual broken down in his/her false beliefs about how “tough” he is, and then built back up only when focused on the technical learning, training, perseverance, and consistency in trying-again and refusal to give up is embraced.

Want to join the competition team at Snow MMA? Good news! Our team is new and growing; which means there are many spots available for those individuals who are truly dedicated and consistent. Show up to class, be consistent, have a good attitude always, respect your peers, listen to the coaches, pay attention to the details of the techniques and drills, and most of all, BE DETERMINED!

Minimum requirements to join:

  • 6 months of training
  • Age 6 or older
  • Must be attending classes at least 3 days per week

Minimum expectations for new team members:

  • Always build up and encourage your teammate
  • Compete in At least 4 tournaments per year
  • Have a team patch on your Gi during class and at the tournament
  • Wear your team rash guard if competing no-Gi at tournaments
  • Attend the competition team training sessions when possible
  • Be an exemplary student on and off the mats. Be a leader!

See you on the mat!
